September is Hunger Action Month.
Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (NDS) is hosting its annual Peanut Butter and Jelly (PB&J) Drive in conjunction with Archdiocese of Philadelphia Schools (AOPS) and Parish Religious Education Programs (PREP) throughout the five-county Philadelphia region.
In Pennsylvania, nearly 1.5 million people face food insecurity lack consistent access to foods that support an active and healthy lifestyle.
Faculty, staff, students, and families are encouraged to collect as many jars of PB&J as possible in support of this hunger relief effort.
All goods donated to this annual drive help stock the shelves of NDS’ network of 50 food cupboards throughout the Greater Philadelphia region for the fall and winter months including five food cupboards operated by Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS); five soup kitchens; and numerous community outreach programs.
Last year, NDS collected approximately 45,590 pounds of PB&J for those in need and facing hunger.
To enable broad participation, NDS is also hosting an online donation drive. Those interested in supporting the NDS Community Food Program can purchase items online through YouGiveGoods at https://yougivegoods.com/ndspbj-2021.
This year’s collection takes place Tuesday, September 7-Wednesday, October 23.
